The chunky natural wooden beads from Manaus (in the Amazon) are interspersed with chips of 'Fio de Turquesa Azul' (Blue Tourquoise) - which is one of the oldest gemstones known, and the birthstone of December and the anniversary gemstone for the 11th year of marriage.

Turquoise was worn by the Pharaohs and Aztec Kings, and Native American and the Indian tribes in Mexico also used it extensively, for ex:

• the Apache felt that turquoise on a gun or bow made it shoot straight, and



• the Navajo considered it as good fortune to wear and believed it could appease the Wind Spirit.
